Canada Day Parade - Sherwood Park, Alberta
Our school submitted a registration form to take part in the annual Canada Day parade, held in our home town of Sherwood Park. We were excited to be a part of this great event, as we have participated for the past 5 years.
This year, however, we decided to do something a little different. We decided to enter our first float into the parade.
At a year end wind-down party, the dancers and their family were invited to a barbeque and a a variety of dance performances. The dancers came to the event a bit earlier and helped to decorate the float. The school had received a generous donation from a local Sherwood Park business to use towards decorations.
After the decorating was done, everyone enjoyed food prepared by volunteers from the Parents' Association. The food was fantastic and the dancers were thrilled to share their love of dance with their families.
On Thursday, July 1, 2010, we debuted our fabulous float. Fourteen dancers showcased a variety of soft shoe and hard shoe dances as the float moved slowly along the parade route. The dancers loved to interact with the crowd as they handed out flyers, danced, smiled and enjoyed the enthusiastic clapping crowds.
This important event is one that has become a tradition - one that we will continue for many years to come.
